Fertility Abbreviations

If you've spent any time on Fertility Forums, you probably have been trying to figure out why someone BD'd til their OPK showed an LH surge and now they're in the TWW and has FX that AF doesn't come but instead, they get a BFP.

Or even in my last few posts, I used a few widely-accepted abbreviations. That's because, in the world where you're Trying to Conceive (TTC), you get really tired of typing Basal Body Temperature (BBT) over and over. We just start to abbreviate. It's like texting but for people who are trying to have babies.

So, if you're a little lost, here's a quick and concise list of what you're probably going to see. You will even see some that are made up for those specific forums. I've done my fair share of "What is an FR test?" (It's a First Response Pregnancy test). Context clues are your best friend when experiencing that.

AF- Aunt flow or period
BBT- basal body temperature
BC- birth control or because
BD- baby dance (sex)
BF- breastfeed
BFN- big fat negative (pregnancy test)
BFP- big fat positive (pregnancy test)
BIL- brother in law
BM- breast milk or bowel movement
CD- cycle day
CM- cervical mucus
CS- cesarean section
DC- dear child
DD- dear daughter
DF- dear fiance
DH- dear husband
DP- dear partner
DPO- days post ovulation
DS- dear son
DTD- do the deed
EBF- exclusively breastfeeding
EDD- estimated due date (pregnancy)
EWCM- egg white cervical mucus
FIL- father in law
FTM- first time mom
FTR- for the record
FX- fingers crossed
FYI- for your information
HSG - hysterosalpingography
HPT- home pregnancy test
IMO- in my opinion
IUI- intrauterine insemination
IVF- invitro fertilization
L&D- labor & delivery
LH - luteinizing hormone 
LO- little one
MC- miscarriage
MIL- mother in law
MFI - Male factor infertility
O- ovulations
OP- original poster (for forums)
OPK- ovulation predictor kit
PG- pregnant
POAS- pee on a stick
PPD- postpartum depression
RE- reproductive endocrinologist
SAHD- stay at home dad
SAHM- stay at home mom
SD- sperm donor
SIL- sister in law
SO- significant other
